A Group Strategy that Makes all the Difference

The Caisse manages one of the world’s ten largest portfolios of real estate assets. Its real estate companies have assets that include buildings, loans and financial securities relating to real estate, which are either wholly-owned or are owned in partnership with other investors.They also invest in investment funds specialized in real estate.


Mandate

  • Manage the Caisse’s real estate portfolios in order to generate the best returns possible and minimize risks.
  • Determine the investments’ strategic orientations.
  • Monitor and manage specialized activities and investments made by the real estate companies.

The team is responsible for managing two portfolios which include the investments of Cadim, Ivanhoe Cambridge, Otéra Capital and SITQ:

  • Real Estate
  • Real Estate Debt

The team manages its portfolios on the basis of the following principles:

  • Active management that takes the position in the real estate cycle and investment diversification into account.
  • Partnership strategy so as to gain access to expertise on local markets and better act on investment opportunities.

Companies with Complementary Activities

The Real Estate Group coordinates the activities of four main real estate companies. Their extensive expertise and business network have helped rank the Caisse among the world’s leading real estate investors.

1. Cadim: Residential Buildings and Hotels
An investment manager in multi-family residential buildings, hotels as well as residences for seniors. Its activities also include investments in publicly-listed real estate securities.

2. Ivanhoe Cambridge: Shopping Centres
An owner, property manager, developer and investor in regional and super-regional shopping centres. Its portfolio includes centres that are primarily located in urban areas in Canada, the United States, Europe and Latin America. Leasable area under management is of over four million square meters. The company also has activities in Asia.

3. Otéra Capital: Commercial Real Estate Loans and Securities
Underwriting and management of commercial real estate loans and securities in Canada, the United-States and Europe: mezzanine loans, mortgage loans, interim loans, construction loans and commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS).

4. SITQ: Office Buildings and Business Parks
Specialized in investments, development, property and asset management of office buildings and business parks. Its portfolio includes several prestigious buildings in Canada, the United States and Europe. SITQ manages over three million square meters of leasable area, particularly in large urban centres like Montréal, Québec City, Toronto, Vancouver, Paris, New York, Frankfurt, London and Washington.
