Synergy in Fund Management Expertise
The Investment Division provides a framework for all of the Caisse’s investment activities. It conducts research and guides strategies so as to obtain the best possible returns and limit the risk of the Caisse’s overall portfolio. Its teams also manage all of the Caisse’s portfolios of liquid investments.
The Key Role of Research
The Investment Division has a research team which is responsible for supporting investment activities. Among other things, this team is in charge of:
- Forecasting return and risk for the different types of investments that make up the Caisse’s benchmark portfolio;
- Analyzing economic cycles and market fluctuations.

The Investment Division combines fours areas of expertise in specific sectors.
Asset Allocation
- Manages a specialized asset allocation portfolio.
- Performs analyses and research relating to economic trends and long-term risks in order to advise depositors on their investment policies.
- Implements tactical asset allocation strategies.
- Evaluates and applies innovative investment strategies.

Fixed Income and Currencies
- Manages five specialized portfolios of fixed-income investments such as bonds. These securities provide stable, foreseeable income.
- Trades foreign currencies and currency futures on several world markets.

Equity Markets
- Manages seven specialized portfolios, composed of stocks traded on Canadian and foreign equity markets.
- Buys and sells securities on world markets.
- Has specific expertise in trading derivatives linked to equities.

- Manages two specialized portfolios combining internal and external hedge funds. For instance, an in-house team invests in financial vehicles relating to commodities, like gold and oil.
