Business Financing

Expanding Together

The Caisse seeks opportunities to contribute to the growth of Québec companies of different sizes and at different stages of development.  It uses a range of financing products along with partnerships with other investors in order to develop innovative solutions that reflect the context and specific needs of each type of business.

For example, in the case of small businesses and venture capital, the Caisse works together with other financial institutions and investment funds. This approach allows complementary expertise to be combined for the companies’ benefit.

As for medium-sized and large businesses, the Caisse does finances them directly. It identifies promising companies in different sectors of activity and offers them growth capital. This financial support is used to carry out their expansion projects or implement their growth strategies.

Financing of medium-sized and large companies can be in the form of an interest in the capital stock (meaning an equity capital investment), a loan, or a combination of both.

PARTNERSHIPS AND FUNDS
In certain market segments, the Caisse enters into partnerships in order to increase the amount of capital offered, gain access to complementary expertise and a better knowledge of the market or share risk. Depending on the situation, it works with companies, funds or other investors.

It also takes part in setting up specialized business financing funds and in large private equity investments, together with banking institutions, pension funds or other investors.

The following are covered by these partnerships and joint investments:

  • Financing of small and medium-sized businesses and manufacturing companies;
  • Transitory capital for succession when a company transfers ownership to a new generation;
  • Leveraged buyouts;
  • Investments outside Canada;
  • Venture capital.

For instance, the financing of start-up or growth companies in the information technology and life sciences sectors is often part of the venture capital segment. For these technology companies to have access to sufficient sources of venture capital and the right expertise, the Caisse uses local or foreign funds active in Québec as partners. Their managers have a keen knowledge of the market and the issues pertaining to these industries.
