The Caisse in Numbers, Since its Creation
Ever since it first began its investment operations, the Caisse has earned sustained returns that have met the expectations of its clients, the depositors. Today, the Caisse is a first-class fund manager which is recognized internationally.
The following historical data include the returns obtained by the Caisse, changes in its assets as well as the gradual diversification of its investments since 1966.

The Caisse manages its depositors’ funds within a long-term perspective. Since its creation, the Caisse has generated an average annual return of 9.3%.

Sustained Growth in Net Assets
Since the Caisse was created, depositors’ net assets have grown constantly. From $1 billion in 1970, net assets passed the $100 billion mark in 2004. Today, the Caisse’s teams manage over $155.4 billion on behalf of its depositors.

Changes in Investments Over the Years
The Caisse’s history has been marked by the rapid growth in depositors’ net assets and the gradual diversification of the overall portfolio by investment type, by region of the world and by industrial sector.
These changes over the years reflect the Caisse’s objective of:
- Generating a return that meets its depositors’ expectations;
- Limiting the risk of its overall portfolio.
1960s and 1970s
The Caisse’s overall portfolio is composed mainly of fixed-income securities, such as Québec government bonds.
1980s
The Caisse increases and diversifies investments in stocks or equity market portfolio first in Canada and then abroad. The Caisse also developed its real estate and private equity portfolios in the 1980s.
Today
Given their potential for high returns, investments in private equity, real estate and hedge funds as a group have gained importance in the overall portfolio. Today they rank equal to investments in fixed-income securities and stocks.
The Caisse has also intensified its asset allocation activities with the goal of further enhancing its overall return.
