From 1965 to Today
Over 40 Years of Investment Experience on Behalf of Quebecers
The Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec has changed considerably since its early days in 1965.
Initially created to manage the funds of the Québec Pension Plan, the Caisse now invests the funds of 25 clients, i.e. its depositors. A shareholder in over 3,000 businesses in Québec, Canada and internationally, the Caisse is one of the largest institutional fund managers in North America.
LA CAISSE TAKES SHAPE
La Caisse was officially created on July 15, 1965 when the Act
governing its operations was adopted in the Québec National Assembly. That day, Premier Jean Lesage defined the institution’s role in a speech (in French only)
which has been inspirational to all the institution’s officers ever since.
Here are the main events that marked the Caisse’s early years:
- 1966
First investments in bonds.
- 1967
First loans to Québec small and medium-sized businesses.
- 1967
First mortage loan.
